Birmingham, UK – 9th November 2024
The Central School of Makeup, a renowned training ground for aspiring makeup artists, is thrilled to announce its recognition at the Birmingham Awards 2024, where it received the prestigious ‘Contribution to Education’ award. The Birmingham Awards celebrate the region’s achievements, honouring individuals and organisations that drive growth, inclusivity, and community impact. This accolade reflects the school’s dedication to empowering future beauty professionals through high-quality, accessible education.
“We’re incredibly honoured to receive this award,” said Laura Rachel, Creative Director at the Central School of Makeup. “It acknowledges our commitment to supporting each student’s journey. This award is a testament to our team’s hard work and the passion of our students, who make everything we do so worthwhile. We’re excited for what’s to come and proud to be part of Birmingham’s vibrant creative community.”
Founded in 2014, the Central School of Makeup (CSMU) is a globally recognised institution for beauty professionals, offering accredited courses in bridal, fashion, media, and special effects makeup. CSMU provides robust, hands-on training that prepares students for dynamic careers. With over 1,500 graduates from across the UK and worldwide, the school has become a hub for creativity, welcoming students from diverse backgrounds who share a passion for makeup artistry.
“At CSMU, we are committed to providing our students with the best guidance and work experience, ensuring they enter the industry with confidence,” added Laura. “We’re proud that our school reflects and celebrates Birmingham’s multiculturalism. Our doors are open to students from all backgrounds, creating a vibrant learning environment where everyone is encouraged to thrive.”
The Central School of Makeup’s structured, industry-driven courses equip students with internationally recognised qualifications, focusing on professionalism, resilience, and industry insight. "Our courses are intensive but give students ample time to practise and refine their skills," Laura explains. “Students are assessed through theory exams, practical exams, and coursework, including a business plan, instilling a level of professionalism that serves them in all areas of the makeup industry.”
The school’s agency, Backstage Artists, connects students with job opportunities and hands-on experience with high-profile brands and events, such as London Fashion Week and collaborations with retailers like Selfridges.
“Our mission is to provide affordable training without compromising quality,” says Laura. “We remember what it was like to be learners ourselves and are committed to fostering an encouraging, inclusive environment. We support our graduates long after they leave, and many have gone on to become leading artists.”
Looking to the future, the Central School of Makeup remains dedicated to pushing the boundaries of makeup education. With its ethos of inclusivity, affordability, and high standards, CSMU ensures that students from all backgrounds have access to world-class training. Its award-winning courses, combined with mentoring and career support, make it a vital part of Birmingham’s creative landscape.
