Our 5-day SFX Bootcamp offers you the opportunity to train in a professional makeup studio environment, guided by industry-leading special effects artists.

This intensive course will take you through all the foundational skills in special effects makeup artistry. From creating realistic bruises, wounds, and scars to mastering aging techniques and character makeup, you'll learn the essential techniques needed to excel in the film, TV, and theater industries.

It is suitable for artists who are looking to add to their skills for commercial jobs, ads, music videos and short films and those who wish to refresh or update their skills.

After completing the 1 week course you will have a very healthy extension of images to add to your portfolio. 

Courses are balanced between demonstrations and hands on practical workshop.

Day 1: Basics of SFX

• Creating Realistic Bruises
  • Understanding bruise formation and color changes over time.
• Producing Open Wounds
  • Studying wound causes and using blood effectively.
• Crafting Bullet Wounds
  • Using silicone and IPA colors for realistic bullet wounds.

Day 2: Subtle Effects

• Mastering Skin Conditions
  • Creating spots, cold sores, and scabs.
• Understanding Split Lips, Burns, and Nose Bleeds
  • Techniques for realistic effects.
• Creating Realistic Scars
  • Exploring different scar types and applications.

Day 3: Hair Work

• Hand-Laid Hair Techniques
  • Applying beards and moustaches.
• Using Different Hair Types
  • Crepe, animal fibers, yak hair, human hair, and synthetics.
• Applying Bald Caps
  • Techniques for realistic stubbles and moles.

Day 4: Aging Techniques

• Grease Paint Aging
  • Techniques for theatre and film.
• Latex Stipple for Aging Effects
  • Creating realistic aging.
• Crafting Severed Fingers and Limbs
  • Realistic severed body parts creation.

Day 5: Character Makeup

• Designing Characters
  • Creating characters for various genres.
• Applying Mixed Techniques
  • Combining different methods for believable characters.

• Wax and Wound Fillers: For detailed wound creation.

• Corn Powder and Collodion: For skin texture.
• Spirit Gum and Crepe Hair: For hair work.

• Tools: Various brushes, sponges, cotton buds, tissues, makeup wipes.

Assessment: On your final day, you will be flex your artistic muscle and create your own character.
