A valuable opportunity to build on a fashion portfolio

She’s Cupid ecommerce shoot; A valuable opportunity to build on a fashion portfolio

Hannah Busst (@hannahbmkup)

With my current studies on CSMU’s Fashion & Creative course drawing to an end, my focus is now on expanding my professional portfolio. Naturally, when the School provided the opportunity for myself and fellow MUA Rita (@riri_makeupartistry) to work on an ecommerce shoot for new clothing label She’s Cupid (@shescupid), we were more than happy to!

We got in touch with She’s Cupid founder, Brogan Kelly, and received model headshots, hair and makeup moodboards and discussed timings for the shoot. Having studied Editorial Skin, where skin appears completely fresh through the power of careful makeup application, in Week 1 of our Creative course, we were confident in creating the desired natural, dewy look.

At our 9am call time, after grabbing a sneak peak at the beautiful wardrobe department, we started working on our models. Essential to creating healthy, glowing makeup is to enhance healthy, glowing skin! A thorough cleansing and moisturising process meant that any makeup sitting on top would only enhance the skin’s natural glow. One of my current personal favourite products to achieve this is Glossier’s Future Dew which acts as a glowy primer without being oily or shiny.

After we styled the model's hair, they had their first outfit fitting and were taken on set to test shoot. It was essential for us as the MUAs to stay focused on the images that were being fed through to the photographer’s monitor, to make sure the makeup was translating well.

With numerous outfit changes throughout the day we had to check makeup was still looking fresh between each look. We were working on a (very rare) hot day and as the studio only got hotter throughout the afternoon, the hero product was our setting powder, which we made sure to touch up on set if needed mid-shoot.

The last looks were shot at around 5pm and the models, photographer and wardrobe department did an incredible job under Brogan’s creative direction. It was an exciting and busy day on our feet, constantly checking our makeup was still holding, and it ended with a toast to everyone’s efforts!

Using the knowledge gained from our studies on CSMU’s Creative course, paired with the work opportunity provided by the School, we now have numerous professional shots to add to our portfolios and have made some great connections that will surely propel us forward in securing future jobs within the Fashion industry.
